1.1.4 Part Two Assignment

Now that you have visited all the sites and have had some practice with absolute value inequalities you are going to create a post (Do this in Word first so you don’t lose your work,) to post here.

Remember to put only your first initial and last initial at the beginning of your post so you can receive credit.

Your task is to explain clearly one thing about inequalities you found confusing.  You should be clear enough to help someone who struggled with the same thing.

Next, you need to post two things you think are critical to know or to do when working with absolute value inequalities.  Again, you should be clear enough to help someone who struggled with the same thing.

Have a partner proof your response before you post, remember this is public so anyone can read this.  Make sure your spelling is correct, you have used complete sentences and that your writing is clear and makes sense.

P.S. Make sure you haven’t left out any important information.

  1. CRT- I didn’t have much trouble on absolute values. The only thing I had trouble with was when you have to isolate the absolute value. I found that confusing at first but after I did some practice problems it came really easy to me. All I had to do was subtract everything that wasn’t in the absolute value to the other side of the equation.

I didn't find anything of inequalities confusing.
2 things that are critical to know when working with absolute values are to remember to solve what is in the lines first and that the answer will always be positive.

Something I found difficult, or confusing about absolute value inequalities is that the numbers inside the absolute value lines, stay the same, so if the expression was |-5+6| it would be 1,
not 11, because the negative is inside the absolute value lines, so it doesn’t change. And two things I found critical to know is that whatever is absolute valued, it is ALWAYS going to be positive, and that, if negative, the number should stay the same when inside the absolute value lines if being added, subtracted, multiplied, or divided with anything.

  4. GV - I was having some confusing troubles with the multiplying and dividing inequalities, actually doing the work and how to explain it. Two things I think are important to know and do when doing inequalities is to be able to work with fractions, pi, and other complicated numbers. As well as being able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers.

One thing I found confusing in inequalities are these symbols (≤, ≥). I think that knowing how to identify absolute values and working with linear equations is critical to know when working with absolute value inequalities.

One thing I had trouble with is the dividing inequalities. You should know the difference between equations and expressions. You should know equivalent equations are an equation that when solved have the same solution set over a given domain. And that equivalent expressions are all expressions that represent the same number for any value of the variable that they contain.

Important things about finding absolute value are they are always have to end up being positive. And that it isn’t that hard to figure out the absolute value of the problem

    I didn’t find anything confusing.
Two critical things to know are to isolate the variable and that the number in | | is going to be positive or zero whether it’s positive, negative, or zero.

One thing I cleared is that 3 or -3 can still be a positive three in Absolute-Value. I understand that absolute value is the distance it is from 0 or the number given. So even if the number is -75 or 75. The number still is 75 from the distance; if the number it started was 0. You can’t travel a negative distance.

One thing I found confusing about inequalities is when its has an equal sign because it gets a little harder. I did more practice with it and I think I did pretty well. One thing that's critical when dealing with absolute value inequalities is when you are multiplying or dividing by a negative you must flip the inequality sign. Also, it is important to know that there are always two answers.

One thing I found difficult was how two numbers were there to be the answer. Two things you have to know in order to solve is that both numbers must be able to work to make the equation correct. Another thing you must know to solve the problem is order of operation.

What is important about working with absolute values is there is no problem. Just make it all into positives. Then you got your answer.
